Intimacy Coordination

After 15 years or so in post-production and 6 in directing, I have decided to add another string to my bow and explore Intimacy Coordination; something I see as highly complimentary to my directing work. With my industry experience in post-houses, production companies and as a freelancer. I’ve has always sought to create an atmosphere on set of trust, safety and authenticity. I have an instinct for crafting story, feeling and human connection. Through my animation work I also have a thorough understanding of how we convey story and emotion through movement and the body.

I am a recent graduate from the Post-graduate, Intimacy Coordination couse at the NFTS, under the mentorship of Haley Muraleedharan. The course has been an in-depth exploration of all areas of Intimacy Coordination, such as creative development, safeguarding and paperwork; all essential to the role. My learning and subsequent practice is rooted in consent, communication and creative collaboration. I’m dedicated to practice with an in-depth and comprehensive workflow that is also adaptable to working in a way that serves the production and crew best. I believe this combination provides both the safety and wellbeing of cast and crew whilst working towards high-quality, creative output. I’m excited to work on a variety of projects, collaborating with different directors, producers, actors and other HOD’s with enthusiasm and flexibility.

What is an Intimacy Coordinator?

(Just incase it’s a mystery)

An Intimacy Coordinator facilitate scenes in Film, TV and theatre that involve nudity, simulated sex and intimate physical contact. IC’s work closely with directors and actors to create choreography to roadmap the scene, bringing intention to movement and touch to convey the narrative and character traits with a certain tonality. IC’s assist in building chemistry between actors and bring expertise on how to make scenes ignite with tension or fizz or be simply believable. IC’s are also another, trained, set of eyes and ears for well-being on-set. Building the work around consent and advocacy, creating an atmosphere of trust gives the actors agency and the environment to create better work.
